RES-Q - Environmental Education Program Goals

Mission

The mission of the 4-H Responsible Environmental Stewardship-Quest Program is:
  • To provide learners of all ages a positive outdoor education experience;
  • To instill a lifelong enthusiasm, appreciation, and sense of responsibility toward the natural world;
  • To assist participants in ultimately making informed environmental decisions.

Goals

  • To assist students in becoming responsible stewards of Arkansas’ natural resources.
  • To enhance appreciation of the natural world and respect for living things.
  • To heighten awareness of natural systems and our place within them.
  • To strengthen educator/student relationships
  • To teach academic classes based on a multi-disciplinary curriculum, including science, social studies, math, communication, art, music, and health utilizing the outdoors as a learning lab.
  • To enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • To develop a sense of community, belonging, and cooperation among participants.
  • To introduce students to the seven 4-H Leadership Life Skills:
    • Communication
    • Learning
    • Working in a Group
    • Management
    • Relationships
    • Understanding Yourself
    • Decision Making

Goals are met through multi-sensory experiences and hands-on activities in natural outdoor settings that help to make concepts tangible, immediate, and relevant.
